Blue Hill Farm Reviews
“Waldo greeted us as we drove up their driveway and immediately made us feel welcome and then Shirley showed us around the house and made sure we felt at home. It’s a beautiful home with an amazing porch (just like the photo with their dog Yogi) and screened in porch. The guest bedroom downstairs has a huge bathroom with a shower stall and separate bathtub. Both the bedroom and bathroom have great views of the rolling hills of Virginia Wine country. We enjoyed wine and cheese on the deck while the sun went down and then had dinner in the screened in porch. The dogs were great companions for the evening. Shirley and Waldo served us coffee and croissants in the morning and were quite lovely hosts. A great weekend getaway from city life! We will definitely be back.”
“My sister and I really enjoyed this quick getaway from DC! The house is gorgeous, with incredible views, and the room was clean and lovely. We had everything we needed and borrowed wine glasses for our wine from a nearby winery 🙂 Shirley and Waldo even had an amazing spread for breakfast and lots of advice for us on things to do in the area. I hope to come back again!”
“My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay with Shirley and Waldo. The room exceeded our expectations, as did the warm welcome and hospitality. The breakfast sandwiches made with eggs from their own free-range chickens were an added bonus! Thanks, Shirley and Waldo!”
“We had such a wonderful time in Waterford. We came down for the weekend from D.C. with our lab, Mauii. I can’t begin to tell you what great hosts Shirley and Waldo are. The room was spotless and so comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, served on the porch. They treated Mauii as their own – he even ran around with Yogi (pictured in the description of the house). In our one day there, we saw 20 deer, a ground hog, and a fox! This place feels like its leagues away from the city, yet it was such an easy drive. We went to Stone Tower Winery before arriving. Their recommendations to go to Loudonberry Farms and Lucketts were great. If you’re looking for a quick, easy get away – do it! You won’t be disappointed.”

We are just 20 minutes west of Dulles Airport but it feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of DC and suburban Northern Virginia. We are within easy walking distance of the charming historic village of Waterford, situated high on a hill with a 360 degree view of rolling hills, pastoral scenes with a backdrop of Sugarloaf and the Blue Ridge Mountains. We get beautiful breezes up here. We have pretty gardens, plenty of fields to walk around, a pool, 3 porches for coffee, wine or just rocking and 2 gazebos -perfect for weddings or relaxing. We have 3 friendly dogs, 1 fairly aloof cat and a handful of chickens that have their own house. Blue Hill Farm is a lovely wedding venue. We have blueberries, blue birds, blue eggs (from our Cream Legbar chickens) blue hydrangeas that bloom all summer, a blue tractor and a blue pickup truck.
Everything. Wi-Fi is available if you need to be connected.
Interaction with Guests
Whatever they prefer. We are typically at home working around the house. Guests can be on their own or be part of our family during their stay. We will leave upon advance request for specific periods.
This is a country neighborhood with great views. We have neighbors but they are just the right distance away. We are just outside the charming, historic village of Waterford. We’re a short drive to Leesburg, Purcellville, Bluemont and Lucketts Virginia. We’re less than a half hour to Berryville, Middleburg, The Plains, Winchester Va, Harpers Ferry W.Va. and Frederick Md. There are numerous vineyards, craft breweries, great restaurants, bakery and coffee shops for those looking to escape to some good country living. For outdoor adventurers, Loudoun County is a mecca for nature lovers with the Appalachian Trail and the Potomac River less than 20 minutes away in either direction for biking, hiking, backpacking, picnicking, canoeing and kayaking. For those looking to shop there are quaint antique shops everywhere and the Leesburg outlet mall and Dulles Town Center within minutes. There are plenty of venues offering live entertainment that spans the spectrum of musical tastes. There are big seasonal events including the Apple Blossom Festival, the historic Waterford Fair and many horses shows including the Upperville and Middleburg Classics and the Gold Cup Races.
You really need a car if you want to explore the surrounding areas. If you’re interested in just relaxing here, feel free to come by taxi or limo but there there is no public transportation. Bring your bicycles!
Other Things to Note
We recently decided to host weddings on our property. It’s ready-made with 2 gazebos and the lovely landscape backdrop.
We have two guest rooms on the main level with a luxury bathroom, separate shower and claw foot tub with full laundry. 2 guest rooms upstairs share a similar luxury bath with separate shower and claw foot tub. Both areas are perfect for overnight guests or a “get-ready” room for a bride and her attendants.
